Lemon Meringue Pie

My Aunt Mary was a great cook and baker. When I was about 10 my parents went on vacation and I stayed with my Aunt Mary and Uncle Sonny. I was so happy because she was so fun and pleasant to be with.

One day Aunt Mary was making a Lemon Meringue Pie for dessert- she asked me to set the table for supper. At the time her dishes were in an upper cabinet. I reached up for the stack of dishes and my elbow went right in the pie.....I was so upset. I ran into the room where I was sleeping and locked the door. I felt so bad and very embarrassed. I thought my Aunt would be so mad. I must have cried for half an hour while poor Aunt Mary was begging me to come out.

When I finally came out she hugged me and laughed...she said "No big deal- it's gonna taste the same." I was so relieved!!!

We often reminisced about that time and laughed. I learned a lesson from her that day...Don't sweat the small stuff!! That story is just one example from all I learned from my Aunt. She was one in a million and will be missed by so many who's lives she touched.
