Frank L. Besser “Junior”, 82
Frank Besser passed away peacefully on June 28, 2018 at Seaview Nursing Home. A native Staten Islander, he was born on July 24, 1935 and raised in South Beach. He later moved to Tottenville. He was a dedicated, strong, and loving family man. Frank was the beloved husband of his wife of over 56 years, Mary (nee Parisi). He was the loving father of Ronald and his wife Judy, Frank, James, his daughter Lisa and her husband Joseph Gentile, and the late Leonard Besser. Frank was a cherished grandfather of 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Ronald Besser, and is survived by his brother, Robert.
Frank is a graduate of McKee high school, and later became a carpenter with the Board of Education. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with friends, playing cards, and spending his winters in Florida. During the late 70’s, Frank served as the president of East Shore Little League. He was instrumental in establishing the fields for the East Shore Senior League on Father Capodanno Boulevard where they later named the field “Frank Besser Field.” Frank enjoyed spending time in his workshop where he would build anything and everything for his family and friends. He above all loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday, July 1st with visiting from 2-4 and 7-9 at Scarpaci Funeral Home. A mass will be held Monday, July 2nd from 10:30am at St. Joseph-St. Thomas Church, 6135 Amboy Road SI, NY 10309. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Lifestyles for the Disabled, 930 Willowbrook Rd., Bldg. 12-G, Staten Island, N.Y. 10314. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
