Obituary for Roy Redman

Roy Lee Redman was born in the Bronx on January 22, 1929 to Charles and Catherine. He grew up in Staten Island and Long Island.
Roy started his career in 1947 as a deckhand on a tug. He worked his way up to captain and docking pilot in New York Harbor. Through the years he has docked and sailed over 12,000 ships including the aircraft carriers America and John F. Kennedy. He has also been captain of the Staten Island Ferry.
Roy served in the US Army from 1953-1961 as a chief warrant officer.
Roy was a member of Woodrow United Methodist Church for 25 years. He served as the Chairman of the Finance Committee for 20 of those years. Roy was usually part of any work party repairing or painting the church, inside and out.
Roy is survived by his wife, Barbara ( nee Lovaasen), a daughter, Kristin Redman, four sons; Stephen, Thomas, James, and John, a brother Robert, a sister, June Murphy, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and a great grandson.
