Obituary for
Egidio Tilesio
Former Brooklyn resident, Egidio Tilesio (affectionally known as “Gino” by family and friends), died on April 6, 2020, one month after his 85th birthday.
Egidio was born March 6, 1935 in Aiello, Calabro Italy to the late Alberto and Maria Tilesio. He was a devoted brother to all of his siblings and their spouses; Leonardo & Anna Tilesio, Francesco & Francesca Tilesio and Rosetta & Angelo Agostino.
For several years, he served in the Italian military and after completing service he and his wife moved to the United States to start a family in 1960.
Always known as a hard worker, having started as a baker in Italy he continued his craft in New York making pizzas. Eventually he changed careers and worked in construction until his retirement.
He loved nothing more than spending quality time with his eight grandchildren; Roseanna, Anthony, Gina, Stephanie, Lindsey, Nicholas, Gianna and Michael.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Palmina and their three children and their spouses; Maria & Rocco Loccisano, Ida Vernet and Alberto & Jennifer Tilesio.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Rosetta Tilesio.
Egidio Tilesio was a strong and proud man. He was a great father who always provided for his family. He did the best he could for them and will always be remembered as a loving grandfather.
He never cared much about himself and who even in his final days would say to his loved ones “just take care of Mommy when I’m gone.”
He will forever be loved and will be dearly missed.
Condolences may be sent to 116 Sommer Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10314.
