Mary Shirley (Batemarco)
1943 - 2022
A beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Mary passed away suddenly on Wednesday March 23, 2022. A native of Brooklyn, Mary moved to Staten Island with her husband 48 years ago and had been an island resident ever since.
She was a graduate of Fort Hamilton High School and worked in the international accounting department of Deloitte, Haskins & Sells at the World Trade Center for 18 years. Changing careers, she then worked as a paraprofessional for the NYC Board of Education up until her retirement. Working mainly in I.S. 34 and P.S. 1, Mary was known for her organizational skills, strong work ethic, and impeccable penmanship.
Two organizations that helped shape her life were the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cadets and Worldwide Marriage Encounter. She was a dedicated parishioner of Holy Child Church and was active in the Great Kills Swim Club as well as the Italian American Women of Staten Island.
Mary was a kind, generous, compassionate soul who enjoyed the theater, cooking, traveling, and vacationing on Long Beach Island. Most of all, Mary enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Stephen. She will be greatly missed by her children Suzanne Friedman(Doug) and Stephen, as well as her grandchildren Samantha, Douglas.
Funeral from Scarpaci Funeral Home 6389 Amboy Road S.I.N.Y 10309 on Monday 10:15 am. Mass of Christian Burial Holy Child Church 11am.
Internment to follow Resurrection Cemetery .
Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9pm.
