It is with deep regreat and sadness I hear of your family's loss. Leroy John Ghiorsi can never be replaced but remembered for the impact he had on so many lives.
My son James has been a frequent and familiar guest in the Ghiorsi-Baum family household for several years now. The family lovingly opened their home to James as a student from Virginia during his first year at Wagner where he met Hunter. James was quickly accepted into the family as one of their own.
There's no way I can relay the affection my son has had for "grandpa" (as James refers to him) and his family but I will try to express the best I can.
My son has always been amazed at the life and spirit within this family-always filled with love and activity. Through my son's eyes...
In the beginning, any health issues grandpa had didn't slow him down from trying. He always made me laugh making something funny from the simplest of things and sometimes causing a bit of chaos that would end in a good laugh. The devotion, committment, and respect felt in this household for grandpa is something I've never experenced. Hunter, my friend, shares the kind of relationship only a grandparent and grandchild can have - devoted to his grandfather and loves him tremendously. What a blessing for both of them. I saw grandpa and Hunter togerther a couple of weeks before his passing and it was the most "beautifully heartbreaking" sight I've ever seen.
In concluding, it is said... if we make a difference in the life of one person, we have achieved the ultimate in humanity. I've heard stories of grandpa's devotion to his family, his dedication to public service, the sacrafices he made that many never experience, and his unyielding zest for life. Quite a husband, father, and grandfather. How very blessed you all are to have know, loved, and been loved by this remarkable "Giant of a Man".
With sympathy, admiration, and respect,
