Dolores Vecchione
December 30, 1933 – April 21, 2020 (age 86 years)
Dolores Vecchione, age 86 of Brooklyn, New York, passed away peacefully at home in Staten Island on Tuesday, April 21, 2020. She was born to the late Vincent & Susan Damaio on December 30, 1933.
Dolores attended Lafayette High School and her first job was working at a local cleaners. Shortly after high school she started working at E.R. Squibb. She married the love of her life, the late William “Willie” Mario Vecchione on September 4, 1954. In 1958, they began a family and she was a stay at home mom until 1970. She then worked as a “Gal Friday” with Fred Lebow, the founder of the world-renowned NYC Marathon.
In 1974 Dolores had an opportunity to purchase the local grocery store, V&L Superette on 25th Avenue in Brooklyn. She took over the store and excelled because of her business sense and love of people. Dolores retired when the business was sold in 1988. In 1989 she became a Nana to her first of many grandchildren. She was the happiest when she was with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, they meant the world to her and she called them all her babies. She fiercely loved her family and friends. If she disagreed with you, she had a strong tone and she would let you know about it. When she regained her composure, she would be asking you if you would want a cup of coffee and everything would be forgotten. Her passions were her family and friends, shopping and going out to dinner.
Dolores is survived by her three sons, William (Maria), Joseph (Janine) and Anthony (LeeAnn), her grandchildren, William (Christina), Cameron (Ashley), Rayana (Freddy), Salvatore, Anthony, Joseph, Alyssa, Nicholas, Christopher, Matthew and Michael and her great-grandchildren, Timothy, Ethan, Giavanna, Nicholas, Mason, Matteo & William, brother James (Jean), many nieces, nephews and many loving family and friends.
She will be forever missed.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at a later date.
