Obituary for
Margaret Balzan
It is with deep sadness that the family of Margaret Balzan (nee Tierney), of Toms River, NJ announces her peaceful passing on January 14, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family at the age of 86. Born in County Cavan, Ireland on March 16th, 1937, to the late Terence and Mary Tierney. Margaret immigrated to United States and met her beloved husband John Balzan in Astoria, New York and they married in 1967. In 1974 they moved to Staten Island to raise their family and she worked in Manhattan as a legal secretary before retiring to Toms River in 1998. Predeceased by her devoted husband of 37 years, John Balzan; her sister Moira Tierney, brothers Patrick and Sean Tierney. Surviving is her loving sister Pauline McEvoy, her beloved children, Colette Conroy, Susan and her husband, John Vergona. Also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Christopher, Olivia, John Conroy; Anthony, and John Vergona along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Margaret found joy traveling extensively and spending winters in her second home in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Margaret will always be remembered for her larger-than-life personality, her warm and welcoming smile, her sense of fun and her young-at-heart attitude. Mass of Christian burial on Saturday, January 20th, 2024, at 11:00 am at Our Lady Star of The Sea Catholic Church, Staten Island, NY, with burial immediately following at Resurrection Cemetery.
