Lukey Boy

My grandfather was a great man. Gregarious, kind, witty and above all else, a good person. He was always there for anyone if they needed him, and if they didn't, he'd be there anyways just to brighten the room. Poppa, as all of the grandkids call him, had an uncanny ability to make people smile and laugh. With his thick brogue and large glasses, he could make any sad child happy and merry again.

One of my favourite memories of my grandfather comes in the form of a favourite game of his. It was essentially a staring contest, but with the twist that you could not smile nor laugh. Poppa always won, simply because he would start "ooo"ing and playfully commenting that his opponent "had finally come around to playing". I never won. I don't think anyone really won, because in the rare instances that Poppa smiled, we smiled. And that was perfectly fine with everyone. We'll miss you, Lukey Boy. And we'll always try to smile.
